Mawia Khogali

Professor • Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice

Mawia Khogali holds a Ph.D. in Psychology and Law from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. With almost ten years of experience in quantitative, qualitative, and applied research, she brings expertise in leveraging science and data-driven metrics to inform product development, strategy, implementation, and evaluation, with a particular lens focused on equity outcomes. Her dissertation examined the role of civilian race in police officers’ perceptions of resistance and disrespect and judgments about use of force. Mawia is currently the Senior Director of Innovation and Incubation at the Center for Policing Equity, where she leads the development of programs, products, and services to deliver data analysis, insights, and policy recommendations that empower black and brown communities to make data-driven changes to achieve more equitable public safety. She is most passionate about creating and sustaining equitable impacts on communities that need it most.
