LaShauna Dean

Professor • Special Education, Professional Counseling and Disability Studies

Dr. LaShauna Dean has worked in the field of mental health counseling for over seven years in a variety of roles. She has worked with clients diagnosed with Axis I and II disorders as a counselor, substance abuse clinician, case manager, crisis intervention worker, and intake/assessment clinician. Dr. Dean is a Nationally Certified Counselor, Approved Clinical Supervisor, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor in Virginia, Master Addictions Counselor, and is a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey. Dr. Dean is an active member of Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Honor Society and is a published author and researcher.

Professional Interests

Dr. Dean’s current research agenda centers on the areas of substance abuse and addiction. She is specifically interested in helping counseling students and beginning counselors build self-efficacy in treating clients with various addictions. Dr. Dean is also interested in social justice research, diversity and communication research, and research design and methodology.
