Youth Prevention Specialist - Part Time

William Paterson University seeks applications for a part time Youth Prevention Specialist to work with the United for Prevention in Passaic County Coalition. The position is a grant funded, renewable on an annual basis. Hours available up to 29 hours per week.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate, conduct and manage all activities related to the Partnership for Success Grant
  • Conduct a comprehensive community needs assessment of youth serving systems in Passaic County
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with members of youth serving organizations to improve policies and practices that will reduce risk factors and enhance protective factors associated with behavioral health disorders
  • Utilizing a prevention-based toolkit, provide education and technical assistance to youth serving organizations
  • Prepare monthly and annual evaluation reports as required by the grant
  • Participate in trainings as identified by the grantor
  • Attend monthly CIACC meetings
  • Coordinate and implement the Tackling Opioids through Prevention for Athletes (TOPs) program
  • Work with the Coalition Director to coordinate quarterly coalition meetings, monthly team meetings and county-wide community trainings
  • Provide and support the Coalition Director with coalition administration duties such as creating requisitions and following through with purchase orders

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Public Health or closely related field required 
  • Experience with community-level projects
  • Understanding of the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) and population-level change strategies
  • Knowledge and experience with substance abuse prevention programming and coalition work
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer and social media skills
  • Experience and competencies in working in a multiracial, multicultural environment
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for work related travel
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule when required
  • CHES or CPS certification strongly preferred
