Assistant Director, Continuing Education and Certification Programs

William Paterson University invites applications for a full-time 12-month position of Assistant Director - Continuing Education Certification Programs.

This position reports to the Executive Director of the School of Continuing and Professional Education and assists the Executive Director in overseeing the operation of the School of Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) to establish and update strategic plans and monitor and report on program progress. The incumbent will independently identify, develop,  and manage new and existing non-credit, post baccalaureate national and local CPE certificate/certification programs, conferences and customized training in collaboration with the Colleges of  Business, Science and Health, Arts and Communication, and Humanities and Social Sciences.

The School of Continuing and Professional Education offers high quality programs and services to adults at all stages of their career cycle.  Adults enroll in the Continuing Education and Certification Programs seeking to change careers, move up or move on, obtain new job skills, or enhance expertise. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing certification programs and conferences which address the professional development needs of executives, managers and professionals seeking nationally recognized credentials in areas such as human resources, non-profit management, healthcare and international programs and CEUs required to sustain credentials.

     

  • Overseeing consultants for Business, Non-Profit Management and Science and Health programs whose responsibilities include certification programs, conferences and related special programs and events.

     

  • Managing program and conference budgets, revenue and expenses and conducting cost benefit analysis of new programs.  

     

  • Managing program evaluations and procedures and the development and implementation of improved methods as required.

     

  • Overseeing the maintenance of essential records and files related to assigned responsibilities.

     

  • Coordinating and conducting the hiring process for program consultants, instructors, part-time employees and vendors as needed. Providing final hiring recommendations to the Executive Director.

     

  • Assisting the Executive Director in managing the CPE marketing plan including conducting market research, competitive analysis, sales, advertising and promotion through traditional and online media outlets. In addition, assisting in the management of design schedules for marketing material.

     

  • Serving as liaison and maintaining cooperative working relationships with internal and external constituents including but not limited to University Deans, Department Chairpersons, Center Directors, regional business leaders and national associations/organizations.

     

  • Preparing correspondence and clear, informative reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations related to assigned responsibilities.

     

  • Developing agendas and assisting the Executive Director in organizing meetings and events related to CPE programs and services.

     

  • Organizing and overseeing the acquisition, distribution, inventory and security of equipment, materials and facilities.

     

  • Serving on standing and ad hoc committees and representing the University at conferences, meetings and seminars.

     

Required qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Three or more years professional experience developing and managing at least one of the following: education, non-credit, or professional certification programs.                   
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint 
  • Capable of conducting research and developing cogent recommendations based on findings.
  • Valid Driver’s License for occasional travel related to the functions of the position.
  • Available for evening and weekend work as required. 

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Earned Master’s degree or enrollment in a Master’s Program - relevant to position
  • Experience conducting training workshops and /or seminars

 

Attributes and traits:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, project and program management skills.
