Assistant Professor, Sociology - Criminology & Criminal

William Paterson University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to serve the large undergraduate Criminology & Criminal Justice major in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, starting September 2019.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Teaching courses in the Criminology & Criminal Justice undergraduate program as well as undergraduate- and/or masters-level classes related to research expertise as needed.
  • Engaged service to the programs served in terms of student mentorship, advisement, curriculum development and assessment, and other important faculty input.
  • Teaching and curriculum development in support of an interdisciplinary program in Urban Science & Society.
  • A robust research agenda advancing to impactful publications and presentations in quality academic venues.

 

Qualifications:

  • Area of specialization in Criminology & Criminal Justice is open, but the successful candidate will also bring expertise that will enhance a new interdisciplinary major in Urban Science & Society. 
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate effective teaching experience, strong research potential, and a commitment to service.
  • A Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminology, or Criminal Justice is required. (A J.D. is not a suitable terminal degree for this position.)  Advanced ABD candidates who meet all other criteria may be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor; the degree must, however, be completed by time of review for reappointment to a second year in early 2020.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Depending on research area, the successful candidate could also support one or more related interdisciplinary programs such as Africana World Studies, Latin American & Latino Studies, or Women’s & Gender Studies.
