The Department of Communication at William Paterson University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a specialization in Public Relations to begin September 1, 2019.

William Paterson University is the third most diverse public university in New Jersey. As a longstanding member of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), we have been designated by the US Department of Education as a Hispanic-Serving Institution. The University offers more than 250 undergraduate and graduate academic programs that range from liberal arts and sciences to pre-professional and professional programs; it enrolls nearly 10,000 students from across the country and from over 40 nations. The University is situated on a beautiful, 370-acre suburban campus in Wayne, New Jersey, just twenty miles west of New York City.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Principal responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Teaching classes in Public Relations including: public relations writing, case studies, campaigns, digital and social media communication and other courses in the core curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Opportunities exist for new course development and special topics offerings at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The successful candidate is expected to maintain an active peer-reviewed creative and/or research agenda; participate in the life of the university contributing to curriculum development; serve on committees; advise students; and attend University and College functions.

Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate must hold a doctoral degree in Communication or related discipline with professional experience in public relations and/or marketing (ABD candidates will be considered but the Ph.D. must be obtained by March 1 in the year following appointment in order to be renewed in the position.)
  • Current ties to the professional community to support classroom activities, student career development, internships and cooperative opportunities are viewed favorably.
  • Evidence of communication and/or public relations-related scholarship and/or a track record of professional publishing activity is required.

 

Preferred qualifications:

A minimum of two years of teaching experience at the college level preferred.
