The Board of Trustees at William Paterson University of New Jersey invites nominations and applications for the position of President.  This is an opportunity for a dynamic, inspirational, innovative change agent to lead an institution that is prepared to move to the next level. The President is responsible for leadership of all University initiatives and operations, including managing academic and administrative operations, fundraising, budgeting and leveraging of all resources, developing partnerships and initiating new directions for the institution.  William Paterson University is ranked in the First Tier of Best Regional Universities-North by U.S. News & World Report for 2018.  William Paterson University offers outstanding and affordable education to a diverse traditional and nontraditional student body with a long history of educating first-generation college students.  In 2015 William Paterson was recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution; and honored as a military-friendly institution for the seventh year in a row. 

Founded in 1855 as a normal school, William Paterson University has evolved into a comprehensive public university that offers a challenging, supportive and highly diverse educational environment, with an enrollment of more than 10,200 undergraduate and graduate students from 33 states and 38 countries.  The University offers more than 250 academic programs through five colleges: Arts and Communication, Cotsakos College of Business, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences and Science and Health and its Continuing Education programs.  As one of the largest degree-granting institutions in the state, the University is very serious about its role in preparing New Jersey’s workforce for the jobs of today and tomorrow.

William Paterson University is the first university in New Jersey to have a civic engagement requirement in the core curriculum, which elevates the level of leadership opportunities for students and faculty.  Students are actively engaged in hands-on learning through the Student Undergraduate Research Program and experiential learning through on- and off-campus experiences and internships.  In addition, the University is partnered with international institutions to provide students with the opportunity to study abroad.  The campus offers classrooms, laboratories, broadcast studios and a simulated financial trading floor that are all state-of-the-art.

Located 20 miles away from the vibrant business, artistic, cultural and financial life of New York City, William Paterson University sits on a beautiful 370-acre hilly, wooded campus in suburban Wayne, New Jersey.  The campus adjoins the High Mountain Preserve of wetlands and woodlands, and is just three miles from the Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park.  The Meadowlands Sports Complex is a 30-minute drive away, the Jersey Shore is an hour’s drive south and Manhattan is a 15-minute train ride away.

The president will have a demonstrated track record of working in a diverse environment and with underserved populations; involvement with civic engagement and community building; and advocacy and activism at the local, regional and national levels. The ideal presidential candidate will have an understanding of and experience with shared governance.  Preference will be given to candidates with an earned terminal degree, progressive administrative and fiscal leadership experience; fundraising, student-success and strategic enrollment experiences are desired.
