The Counseling, Health, and Wellness Center at William Paterson University seeks a Counselor for general individual intake assessment, crisis response and counseling. The Center provides a proactive approach to ensuring that the psychological and medical needs of students are attended to effectively.

The responsibilities of this 12-month position include, but are not limited to, outreach presentations to various campus groups; collaboration with other University departments; participation of on-call emergency services and supervision of graduate level practicum students.

A Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology or a master’s degree in social work is required. Licensure as a psychologist in the state of New Jersey is required, license-eligibility in New Jersey within one year will be considered.  Social work candidates must possess an LCSW in the state of New Jersey and SIFI certification is preferred. NJ LCADC license preferred. This position requires the ability to complete substance abuse assessments, prevention and treatment for students requiring these services.

The selected candidate will also possess broad “generalist” skills in assessment and treatment with a wide range of disorders and levels of function and have the ability to respond and assess patients in crisis; will have the ability to handle a large caseload as well as the ability to work with clients of diverse backgrounds. S/he will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, be available for on-call emergency services and have the ability to work both independently and as a part of a treatment team.

Experience in an institution of higher education setting preferred as well as experience in supervision of therapists in training and knowledge of social service resources in the Northern New Jersey area are preferred.
