Hideo Watanabe has been a professor of Japanese language and culture at William Paterson University since 2001. He continues to do research within his areas of specialization to increase awareness and understanding of Japan for both foreigners and native Japanese.

Professional Interests

The modernization of Japan: how Japan has evolved through contact with the Western world, who were the players involved in cultural interactions, and in what areas of Japan this took place.
