MaryEllen Levine

My name is Mary Ellen Levine. I am a full-time non-tenure track professional/nursing faculty member here at William Paterson University. With over 40 years of experience, my passion is in medical/surgical nursing, hospice and end of life care, with additional experience in cardiac and respiratory acute care, pediatrics, home care, and school nursing.

I earned an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Bergen Community College, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing at Dominican College, School Nurse/Health Educator Certificate from Caldwell College, a Master's degree in Nursing Education from Walden University, and Doctor of Nursing Practice from William Paterson University.

In 1988, I was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, International Honor Society for Nursing. I am a member of the American Nurses Association and the New Jersey State Nurses Association (NJSNA) Region 1. I have served as NJSNA Region 1 VP for Education, Region 1 President-elect, President, and am Past President. I have served as NJSNA Vice President. I was elected to President-elect of NJSNA in 2019. I served two years as NJSNA President (2021-2022) and am presently NJSNA Past President. In 2025, I was elected to serve as the American Nurses Association Membership Representative for NJSNA. This is a 3 year term. I serve on various committees and groups, including the Health Nurse Healthy New Jersey, Congress on Policy and Practice, the Legislative Committee and the Joint Protocol Steering Group. In 2024, I petitioned to the NJSNA Board of Directors, along with a group of other RN members to form the Addressing Racism in NJ Nursing Task Force. I am a member of the Philippine Nurses Association of New Jersey, New Jersey Consortium of Nurse Educators, am a charter member of the newly formed Consortium of New Jersey Academic Nurse Educators (in 2023), the New Jersey League for Nursing (NJLN) and I proudly support many nursing associations. I published an article, “When New Nurses Talk, Nursing Organizations Listen,” in the January issue of Nursing 2020. My DNP final project was titled, "Palliative Care Self-Competence: An Examination of Registered Nurses in the Acute Care Hospital During the COVID-19 Pandemic."

I am proud to advocate for patients, communities, nursing students and fellow nurses. In my free time, I enjoy swimming, working out at the gym, knitting, and reading.
