Eileen Foti
Professor • Department of
Foti wrote and co-produced A Ripple in the Water: Healing Through Art, an award-winning documentary about papermaking and embroidery projects that were spearheaded by Kim Berman and used for poverty alleviation and HIV/AIDS awareness programs for women in rural and urban communities across South Africa. The project was funded in part by grants from the NJ Council for the Humanities, Johnson & Johnson, Karma Foundation, and the Global Education Department at Montclair State University. It has been screened extensively at international film festivals, universities and museums, and it has aired on PBS TV stations across the United States and Canada.
In 2018, Foti was commissioned by Atlantic Health System and Morris Arts to create public art pieces for Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center, Newton Medical Center, Hackettstown Medical Center, and Chilton Medical Center.
Foti has developed projects that aim to achieve positive social transformation through art with non-profit organizations such as Inspired-Threads (NJ), Swat Relief Initiative (Pakistan), Artist Proof Studio (South Africa), and Crow’s Shadow Institute on the Umatilla Reservation in Oregon.
Foti is currently a Board Member for Inspired Threads, NJ. She has been on the Board of Trustees for Arts Guild New Jersey; the Board of Directors for The Printmaking Center of New Jersey and The Crossing Over/Changing Places Consortium, DC; and the Board of Advisors for Frontline Arts, NJ and Artist Proof Studio, Johannesburg, South Africa
