Michael Figueroa

Professor • Department of Kinesiology

Michael A. Figueroa earned a Doctor of Education in Applied Physiology (2006) and a Masters of Education in Applied Physiology (2004) from Teachers College, Columbia University. Additionally, he has a Masters of Science in Exercise Science and Rehabilitation from Brooklyn College, CUNY (1999) and a Bachelors of Arts in Human Movement Studies from Hunter College, CUNY (1995). He is nationally certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), and as a Flexibility Technician by Maximum Performance International. Previous employment includes Teacher of High School Science (Msgr. Scanlan HS, Bronx, NY), and Exercise Technician in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Beth Israel Medical Center, NY, NY).

Dr. Figueroa has a passion for exercise prescriptions to enhance human performance. Since 1994, he has worked with numerous individuals and athletes, both professional and non-professional in various aspects of exercise conditioning and training. His research interests include, but are not limited to, caloric expenditure, flexibility, and aerobic conditioning in various simulated reduced-gravity environments.

Dr. Figueroa enjoys spending time with his wife, traveling, exercising, and living life to the fullest. He is a life-long practitioner and student of the martial arts. For the last 38 years, he has practiced various styles including Jujutsu, Judo, Tai Chi, Boxing and Karate. He continues to train with his teacher in Connecticut and Japan and is the chief instructor at the Myofu-An Dojo school of martial arts in New Jersey.
