ALGEBRA I CLINIC WITH ALGEBRA II REVIEW

Algebra Clinic is designed for students who need a refresher or who want to enhance their algebra skills before going back to school in September. Students will start the course covering algebra I concepts and review algebra II material by the end of the week. Topics will include: operations of real numbers and their properties; solving linear equations and inequalities; writing and evaluating algebraic expressions; identifying and evaluating functions; writing linear equations; graphing systems of equations and inequalities; working with operations of polynomials; factoring polynomials; solving quadratic equations and basic concepts of statistics. Students are welcome to bring their summer math assignments for review. By the end of the program, students will build the skills needed to be successful in algebra.

ACADEMIC WRITING

Throughout the duration of this course, students will have the opportunity to develop their academic writing skills in an effort to prepare them for both high school and college writing tasks. An array of writing styles will be demonstrated and utilized in this course. Not only will the students have an opportunity to explore various genres of literature and an array of articles, but they will also have the opportunity to research topics that they are interested in. Specifically, effective writing techniques and formats needed to produce well-written term papers and analytical essays will be practiced in this course, as students will delve into research-based essays, discuss and write about their research, and have the opportunity to present their findings to the class through verbal presentations. Involving the students who participate in this course in a variety of reading and writing tasks will promote the development of the skills needed to be proficient in all future academic writing courses.
