In this course, students will learn and use the scientific method to explore why simple items found in the kitchen bounce, fizz, bubble, and ooze. Students will learn about both chemical and physical reactions while making fizzing lemonade and a volcano in the kitchen. Additionally, they will learn about the states of matter while making “magic mud,” and they will understand and experience phase changes that can occur while making homemade butter and salt crystals. Finally, students will understand polymers while creating bouncy balls and silly putty. By working together, they will discover that the kitchen is a fun-filled, playful, and exciting science lab!
