August 1 - August 4: Business Leadership Academy for Grades 11 - 12

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

New for Summer 2022 is the Business Leadership Academy, a 4-day immersive pre-college summer camp program hosted by the Cotakos College of Business at William Paterson University. The Business Leadership Academy is for emerging young leaders interested in entrepreneurship and business. Student participants will have the opportunity to learn directly from business instructors, college students, and business professionals in a fun and interactive college environment.

Who should participate in this program?

The Business Leadership Academy is for rising high school juniors and seniors and recent high school graduates interested in exploring leadership, entrepreneurship, and business topics to help them prepare for the competitiveness of college.

When you complete this program, you will:

o Relevant leadership and business skills for college and a career in business

o Gained an understanding of general business topics to guide college and career path decisions

o Experienced learning in a college environment

o Explored career options that align with your personal and professional interests

o Received a certificate of completion for your achievements

PROGRAM FORMAT

The Business Leadership Academy is a 4-day business program. The program consists of the following:

o BUSINESS MINI-LESSONS

The Business Mini-Lessons are 60-minute instructor-led discussions that introduce participants to general business principles and concepts. Topics include Accounting, Economics, Finance, Global Business, Law, Management, Marketing, and Professional Sales.

o BUSINESS SIMULATIONS COMPETITION

The Business Simulation Competition allows participants to engage and interact in an online game-like business simulation. They will learn and develop general business skills in a fun and exciting competition-style learning environment.

o LEADERSHIP SKILL BUILDING

The highly interactive Leadership Skill-Building sessions allow participants to engage in hands-on learning exercises and panel discussions led by college students. Participants will develop leadership, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills through business simulations, data analysis, personal brand development, and presentations. These skills are essential to be successful in any business environment.

o BUSINESS CAREERS FIRESIDE CHAT

The Business Careers Fireside Chat is a 60-minute moderator-led panel discussion with young business professionals. The session will allow participants to ask thought-provoking questions to help them gain realistic insights to guide their college and career path.

o WP COLLEGE LIFE TOUR

The WP College Life Tour sessions are small group meetings led by students and the admissions department of William Paterson University. The sessions provide an opportunity for high school students to explore the day and life of a college student and

how to apply to be one in the future. Participants will learn about the college experience, classes, student clubs, and campus life and tour the campus of William Paterson University.

This program is scheduled to run in-person but is subject to move online if deemed necessary because of COVID-19. Staff will notify you of any changes before the start of the program.
