Differentiating with Assessments, Part 1 & 2: Teacher as Learner 12/1/2021 (PDS Schools Only)

Audience:  Secondary Teachers and supervisors

Description:

Part 1

Participants will explore the myths surrounding assessment design and administration and reconsider the use of assessments as a tool for teaching and empowering self-directed learners. Through whole group discussion, small group student needs evaluation, application of instructional assessment strategies, and independent reflection on teaching - participants emerge with a deeper understanding of differentiation involving assessments as a tool for instruction. Participants are certain to return to their classrooms with new strategies for integrating assessments into lesson designs, serving as models for others at their locations on the integration of best practices utilizing assessment strategies as a tool for teaching.

Part 2

Participants engage in activities that utilize assessment-infused instructional activities for this interactive workshop. Activities will lead into a reflective discussion of processes focused on identifying and analyzing students’ differences in interpreting and processing visual and auditory information. This understanding will then be applied to small group or individual (choice) problem-solving activities focused on developing and integrating unique assessment tools for instruction that fit the needs of participants’ specific groups.
