Restorative Justice in Education: Creating Schools Filled with Hope 10/24/19 (PDS Schools Only)

Target Audience:  All Educators

Description: Many school practices are not designed to help student’s diffuse the typical conflicts that they experience in their daily lives.  Rather, many schools confront students, often exasperating the dilemma that leads to the conflict in the first place.  Restorative justice (RJ) offers a set of principles that places community at the center of school practice and encourages shifts in the ways that schools respond to students who are dealing with distressful situations.  The inclusive practices that RJ encourages schools to adopt place all stakeholders front and center and allow for the shift in discipline that moves from punishment to learning.  This workshop offers an introductory look at RJ principles and cases of successful RJ implementation. We invite you to engage with peers on a powerful topic that is poised to become a critical aspect of your school.
