What are Microaggressions? (Part 1) 3/02/22 (PDS Schools Only)

Target Audience:  Preschool Teachers, Assistants and Coaches

Participants will a) understand the types of microaggressions, b) recognize and identify microaggressions in the Early Childhood classroom, c) reflect on personal/professional experiences with macroaggression and their impact.

Early childhood educators prioritize providing children with safe spaces to learn and grow. They recognize the importance of student-centered instruction and social-emotional development. They understand that children learn best in environments in which they feel like respected members of a community.  Yet, what is often difficult for educators to identify are microaggressions, subtle and oftentimes unintentional interactions, which can undermine effort when creating culturally proficient classrooms and learning communities. This workshop will explore the ramifications of microaggressions while providing participants with a toolkit intended to support teachers with identifying and eradicating microaggressions in classroom environments.
