Medical Terminology

Medical Terminology

Course Description

According to the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics, health information technicians are one of the ten fastest growing allied health occupations. These are challenging, interesting careers that are compensated according to the level of training and skills, and how effectively these skills are used.

Such people are employed by hospitals, clinics, doctor offices, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), mental healthcare facilities, insurance companies and government agencies; some work from home as independent consultants using medical billing and coding programs and other computer software.

Our Medical Terminology Home Training Program is designed for those who require a solid medical terminology background for health-related careers. It is the prerequisite program for our Coding Course, and a useful adjunct to the Health Insurance Specialist Program.

The program is a self-paced, interactive, learn-at-home process that has been designed by experts with over 35 years of experience in the MT field. It is a doorway to employment in the medical field and a precursor to our billing, coding and transcription course.

Plan to complete the approximate 60 hours of study in 3 months or less, dependent on your schedule. If no final is taken, your grade will be posted as a “fail.” Extensions are granted past the 3 month period for a fee. Shortly after enrollment you will begin receiving regular email notifications regarding your study progress. It is your responsibility to respond to our emails and work to finish within the time period allotted. Failure to respond to these notices could result in significant delays, grade reporting issues and failure in the class.

Your goal is to complete the course and pass your final exam.

Outcome
Upon completing the final examination score of 80% or higher a Certificate of Completion, demonstrating the practical knowledge of the words of medicine will be provided. You will then be qualified to:

  • Work in hospital admissions
  • Work in a doctor office
  • Work in an insurance company
  • Move on to other career fields such as coding, billing, health insurance specialist, and medical records

Assessment
The entire course uses self-assessment techniques and quizzes (no instructor grading) follow each lesson. The student is constantly aware of the individual progress, but just in case, interaction is always available if a student wishes to contact an instructor, either live or by email. Grades: No final grade will be provided without taking the final examination.
