Action May Be Required: Duo Mobile App Minimum Supported Version

Dear William Paterson community,

Quick Summary
Duo, the multifactor authentication system used at the university, will soon require that the Duo Mobile app be at a specific version (4.85.0) or later to properly function. Beginning in March, older versions of the Duo app will no longer support Duo Push notifications and approvals. To avoid future issues, please ensure that you are running Duo Mobile version 4.85.0 or later on the phone/device you approve Duo requests with.

Detailed Information
If you have your phone settings configured to automatically update any installed mobile apps that you have installed, you should have the most current version of the Duo mobile app already installed. If you need to ensure that your Duo Mobile is up-to-date on your phone/device, you can do the following:

  • Open the App Store or Google Play Store
  • Search for Duo Mobile
  • Tap Update if available
  • The phone should then show the version of the Duo Mobile app that you have installed.

Additional Notes:

  • The current versions of Duo Mobile will require Android 11+ or iOS 16+.
  • Duo Mobile Apps that cannot update will still generate passcodes, but push notifications will stop working.
  • Individuals may see Duo‑generated warnings if their app version is outdated.

If you need assistance with updating the Duo Mobile app on your phone/device - or you cannot update and have questions about alternative authentication methods - our Information Technology Helpdesk staff are available to assist.

Please reach out to our team by creating a Helpdesk ticket at www.wpunj.edu/helpdesk or by calling (973) 720-4357.

Thank you.
