In accordance with the state law, William Paterson University is required to offer health insurance coverage for purchase by students who are enrolled full-time each academic year. The plan being offered for 2024/2025 academic year is through Aetna Student Health. For health insurance purposes, full time is defined as an Undergraduate taking 12 or more credit hours or a Graduate student taking 9 or more credits and Biology/Biotechnology graduate students taking 8 or more credit hours and Doctor of Clinical Psychology students taking 6 or more credits must go through the waive or enroll process. Full-time students as defined above, are automatically billed for health insurance. Full-time students have the opportunity to waive/opt out of this coverage by providing evidence of health insurance coverage to the University Sponsored insurance company by the waiver deadlines established by the University.
WPOnline students
Full-time students enrolled exclusively in the WPOnline program are not required to have health insurance offered through WPU.
Health Insurance Enrollment/Waiver Information
Students are required to enroll/waive the University Sponsored Insurance Plan each academic year. If you plan to keep the University Sponsored insurance, you may self-enroll prior to the University enrollment period. If you have other coverage that is comparable to the University Sponsored Insurance and do not wish to supplement your plan with the University's Plan, you must complete the on-line waiver form to have this charge removed from your bill. To enroll in or waive the insurance plan, click on www.universityhealthplans.com/wpunj and follow the instructions. For video instructions on how to waive the insurance, click on Waiver video.
