Free Outdoor Concert - La Cumbiamba eNeYĆ©

Event Location: Shea Center Plaza
Event Date & Time: Monday September 27, 2021 05:15 PM - 06:30 PM

In conjunction with WP’s Latinidad Heritage Celebration, we present to you a thrilling performance of traditional Colombian music and dance by La Cumbiamba eNeYé. The powerfully rhythmic Afro-Colombian music is the heart of the traditional open-air gatherings known as cumbiambas, from which the ensemble takes its name. Performing the music of both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of Colombia, the group has been establishing itself as one of the finest ensembles of its kind in the United States. La Cumbiamba explores the Colombian musical styles of cumbia, puya and mapalé with the use of traditional instruments from the African Diaspora, as well as those of the Indians of Colombia and the European settlers. Please join us for this open-air gathering or "cumbiamba" of music and dance in front of the Shea Center on the plaza.

This event is free and open to the public. An assortment of empanadas, fresh fruit cups, and hot/cold beverages will be served to all guests in attendance, courtesy of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion. Please note: In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be moved inside the Shea Auditorium.

“The ensemble’s artistry and verve energized the inauguration of this year’s Latin American and Caribbean programming at Princeton, and set a new standard for PLAS cultural events.” – Deborah Yashar, Director, Program in Latin American Studies, Princeton University
