Designing AI-Resilient Asynchronous Courses: A Practical Faculty Toolkit

Join us for this interactive two-hour WAC workshop where faculty will explore and share the latest approaches to preserving authentic writing and learning in asynchronous online courses. As generative AI becomes increasingly embedded in students’ writing practices, many faculty teaching asynchronous online courses are asking how to preserve learning, invite authentic student writing, and create meaningful engagement without relying on detection or punitive measures. This two-hour online workshop will focus on course design strategies that make learning visible, cumulative, and difficult to outsource. While we may not be able to “AI-proof” courses, we can collectively reimagine asynchronous learning environments that prioritize thinking, process, and student ownership of writing. This session will introduce a practical toolkit for course and assignment design, including scaffolding, low-stakes writing, concept mapping, version history, video reflection, and discussion board redesign. We will also make space for a structured conversation in which participants share their own experiences, challenges, and successful practices.
