Microsoft Publisher End of Life - October 2026

Microsoft has announced that the Microsoft Publisher application will be end-of-life and no longer supported starting in October of 2026. More information on that announcement from Microsoft is available here.

After the end-of-life date, the Microsoft Publisher application will no longer be supported and will no longer be available on university computers.

For anyone currently using Microsoft Publisher
There will be no direct replacement to open and edit Publisher (.pub) files, but Microsoft has provided documentation here on how to export your .pub files prior to the October 2026 end of life. You should begin to transition away from Publisher for desktop publishing and also export copies of any Publisher files you want prior to the October 2026 date.

The university has access to a few alternative options for replacing Publisher functionality:

  • Adobe Express (at https://express.adobe.com) is a web-based tool with templates for various social media platforms and common print document sizes. It's available to WP employees with their WP accounts as the login.
  • Adobe InDesign is a more robust publishing tool available to employees on university computers and available in computer labs for students. Information on the Adobe Creative Cloud suite is available at https://itwiki.wpunj.edu/index.php/Adobe_Creative_Cloud
  • Microsoft PowerPoint may suffice for very basic publishing needs and is available on all university office and computer lab computers.

Please contact our Information Technology Help Desk at www.wpunj.edu/helpdesk or (973) 720-4357 if you have any additional questions or need assistance.
