Rita MacDonald: Pattern Recognition

South Gallery, Ben Shahn Center for the Visual Arts

Rita MacDonald is the 2025 grand-prize winner of the University Galleries’ national juried

printmaking exhibition Ink, Press, Repeat. This solo exhibition brings together MacDonald’s

meticulously created pencil drawings and prints on paper with a newly created, large‑scale,

site‑specific wall mural, offering visitors an immersive encounter with her distinctive visual

language. Influenced by the symmetry, order, and repeating forms of Minimalist artists,

MacDonald also explores how repetition, pattern, and perception shape our understanding of

place and memory.

There will be an Artist Talk on Friday, May 8 | 4:30-5:00 p.m. | South Gallery

Artist Rita MacDonald in conversation with University Galleries Director Ellen Hoobler
