Board of Trustees - Student Trustee Application


WP and SGA are seeking candidates to represent the students’ voice on the WP Board of Trustees!

Qualifications: Application Due March 2!

  • Undergraduate with at least 2.5 GPA
  • Enrolled for Fall 2025, Spring 2026, Fall 2026 and Spring 2027
  • Commit to 2 year term beginning Fall 2025 semester
  • Strong communication skills and desire to represent WP student body on university issues

Interested students must complete an  application by March 2, 2025!  The selected student will serve as the non-voting student representative on the Board of Trustees beginning Fall 2025 thru Spring 2026, and will become a voting member in Fall 2026 thru Spring 2027.  Time commitment includes attending monthly BOT and Committee meetings (TBD). 

The Board of Trustees Student Representatives Responsibilities:
 
a) The Alternate Student Trustee (Non-Voting Member of the Board) is elected to a two [2] year term, serving as a non-voting member of the Board of Trustees in their first year and ascending to a voting member their second year.  
b) The representatives must adhere to Board of Trustee requirements as detailed in the NJ Trustees Guide and any William Paterson guidelines provided https://www.wpunj.edu/university/BoardOfTrustees/index.html
c) Serve on SGA Senate as an ex-officio member with full voting rights when all requirements are fulfilled 
d) The Student Trustee is encouraged to attend at least one meeting of the SGA Senate per calendar month. The Alternate Trustee may attend but is not required to do so. The Student Trustees are encouraged to attend the SGA Leadership Retreat. 
e) Student Trustees are exempted from Senator office hour requirements, attendance and standing committee requirements. 
f) Student Trustees are encouraged to submit a monthly report to the SGA President 
g) Inform the SGA of matters, events, or issues pertaining to the University Board of Trustees 
h) The Student Trustees are encouraged to provide a report (either together or individually) to the Senate at least once per calendar month detailing the recent Board actions, decisions and discussions. At the request of the SGA President, the Student Trustee may be asked to provide updates to the SGA Executive Board 
i) Vacancies in either voting or non-voting position will result in a BOT application and selection process as outlined in the SGA Elections Guidelines. The BOT voting and non-voting members must participate in the replacement selection BOT process by joining the BOT selection committee when a future vacancy warrants the committee’s formation.
