William Paterson University invites applications for a full time tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning September 1, 2019.

Assistant Professors in Computer Science will be an integral part of a thriving and energetic department that is committed to excellent college-level teaching, proactive innovative classroom activities deployment, engaging scholarship and research production, and to participating in departmental functions. Professors are responsible for ensuring that undergraduate students graduate with the requisite skills to go on to graduate studies or secure employment as programmers, system analysts, software engineers, database administrators, network specialists, computer scientists and more. 

The Department of Computer Science located in the College of Science and Health, which is one of the five comprehensive and diverse colleges at William Paterson University.  The Department of Computer Science offers a comprehensive program in both the theory of computer science and its applications.  Our hands-on oriented Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Technology (CIT) and our internationally accredited (ABET) Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science (CS) prepare students for graduate studies and a variety of 21st Century careers.  We encourage students to engage in research that is supported by engaged faculty and on-site state-of-the-art computing technology. 

 

Reporting relationship: Department of Computer Science Chairperson

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as Assistant Professor teaching assigned coursework
  • Take responsibility for course level outcomes by implementing University and College level philosophy, curriculum and course objectives in the classroom or online as assigned
  • Develop innovative teaching approaches that ensure that students achieve stated learning outcomes; proactively monitor student outcomes; provide timely feedback; flag issues in a timely fashion as they arise
  • Participate in departmental and college level activities
  • Serve as a positive and professional role model for students; proactively assisting in their professional and social development
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in pedagogy, research, careers, and other advances within the discipline

Required qualifications:

  • Earned Ph.D (or ABD within six months) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology; specialization in networking, IOT, security, mobile, or cloud computing would be stand-out preferences.
  • Teaching experience and demonstrated commitment to higher education
  • Evidence of scholarship / research productivity
