There is an employment  opportunity available in the title of Technical Library Assistant (TLA) within the Cheng Library. Under the guidance of the Head of Periodicals/Document Delivery, the Interlibrary Loan Librarian Assistant  (TLA) is responsible for activities pertaining to processing interlibrary loan requests from William Paterson University patrons and other libraries using various interlibrary loan software systems to locate and retrieve requested materials. (systems: ILLiad,OCLC, RapidILL and JerseyCat.) In addition, the selected candidate will possess the skills to interpret and apply library policies; plan, organize and analyze a variety of projects with minimal direction; assist users; and train and supervise student assistants. The TLA must be able to work cooperatively with others and interact professionally with library departments and other campus offices; does related work as required.

Requirements include four (4) years of experience in work involving the processing of technical clerical work in a library, one (1) year of which shall have included the supervision of library assistants or other clerical titles. In addition the selected candidate must possess excellent oral and written communications skills and have experience working in MS Word and Excel.

Desired qualifications for the position include strong organizational and problem solving skills; ability to communicate and interact with diverse populations; ability to prioritize multiple workflows; willingness to abide by the American Library Association’s Code of Ethics and the ability to lift 20 pounds.

The work schedule for this position is Sunday – Thursday, 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Some Saturday hours will be required during the summer.

Salary: $43,094.20 - $48,971.34

Note: The selected candidate will be required to file for, take and pass the examination administered by the NJ Civil Service Commission when announced.
