Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Development, the Director of Recreational Services is responsible for the development and administration of recreational programs designed to promote health and wellness, social interaction, constructive use of leisure time and lifelong learning for the William Paterson University community. Working on behalf of the entire university community, Recreational Services provides opportunities that meet the evolving trends in health and wellness. The Director serves in a leadership role that supports University efforts to enhance student experience by providing exceptional venues and programming.
Principal responsibilities include but are not limited to: Manages the Recreation Center, Fitness, pool and outdoor intramural fields for a diverse array of activities including club sports and external event management and programs. S/he oversees the daily operation of the Recreation and Fitness Centers; coordinates all aspects of event management, including contract negotiation, event planning and operations as well as plan, manage and evaluate the annual budget associated with the operation. Spearheads collaborative partnerships with other campus colleagues/departments that focus on health & wellness themes and research opportunities.
Master’s Degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Kinesiology / Exercise Science or appropriate related field is required. Three years of experience in the planning and implementation of recreational programs and services in a higher education setting, including experience managing a recreational complex is also required. At least one year of supervising full time professional staff is preferred. The selected candidate must possess experience coordinating all aspects of event management; demonstrated experience in program development and facility management and ability to work effectively with diverse constituents. Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Apple OS are also required.
Other preferred qualifications include CPR/AED and First Aid certified, experience overseeing all aspects of club sports programming and NIRSA professional membership.
