Under the general supervision of the Director of Payroll and Employee Benefits, the Assistant Director provides direction and leadership to ensure the smooth operation of the day-to-day activities of the Payroll and Employee Benefits department. The successful candidate is a contributing member to the leadership team who works collegially with diverse constituents and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Principal responsibilities include but are not limited to: processing payroll, overseeing employee leave processes, health and dental benefits administration, and pension enrollment activities in accordance with state and federal guidelines and University policies and procedures. In addition, s/he develops and prepares all human resource data management reporting and analytics, assists in developing and implementing short and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures, monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of five (5) years of payroll experience that includes supervisory responsibilities are required.
The selected candidate must possess knowledge of payroll tax regulations and computation methodologies, federal and state reporting regulations and procedures as well as demonstrated experience in utilizing and managing automated payroll and/or human resources information systems. In addition, proficiency in the use of technology including Microsoft Office applications; strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills; as well as the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community and skilled in HRIS reporting and analytics are required.
Work experience in a higher education environment including benefits administration; proficiency in utilizing online and/or web based communication tools and experience working with Ellucian/Banner HR and Payroll system or similar HRIS system are preferred.
