Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Network and Systems Services (ENSS), the Network & Systems Specialist (PSS2, CS) is a core member of the ENSS support team for the unit. The position assumes departmental responsibility for providing network and systems support for the University. Specific responsibilities include planning, installation, coordination/ management and support for Cisco wired and wireless network equipment, and Cisco ISE authentication and troubleshooting. Other responsibilities include servers/storage support and maintenance for all University’s systems following the recommendations and procedures set by the current University system administrators.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to: managing and maintaining the ENSS wiki website with current and up-to-date support content; monitoring the status of all network, server and storage systems equipment utilizing WhatsUp Gold software and take appropriate action on failure events. Coordinates and manages all networking/storage/systems equipment, including installation, inventory and firmware upgrades. Co-manages a team of skilled student workers in the support of the University infrastructure. Provides specialized training as needed for part-time workers, including Cisco network technologies, troubleshooting techniques, physical cabling, and fiber optic troubleshooting. Coordinates all network/systems/storage infrastructure repairs from physical cabling to the replacement of systems/networking equipment utilizing a core group of skilled student workers.

A Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university is required. NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year for year basis.

Requirements include a minimum of three (3) years of experience, two (2) of which must be in network support services as well as at least one (1) year experience working with the following: Cisco ISE authentication management for network security; technical knowledge of Cisco IOS, routers, switches, wireless access points, and ISE Appliance; CAT/5/e cabling, fiber cabling troubleshooting, and network patch panels and troubleshooting both wired and wireless network connections, and connections involving the CISCO ISE authentication. In addition s/he will possess sound working knowledge of both Windows and Unix operating systems; expertise with network security related tools including Nmap, Nessus, Ethereal, WhatsUpGold, Tripwire, Snort, and Radius; experience and understanding of TCP/IP open network protocols, IPSec, DTSL, TSL, and SSL. Strong written documentation and verbal communication skills are required. Must possess valid drivers’ license. Systems or network related certifications and supervisory experience is preferred.
