The Counseling, Health, and Wellness Center at William Paterson University seeks a psychologist to join our management team in a new Assistant Director position. The Center provides a proactive approach to ensuring that the psychological and medical needs of students are attended to effectively.

The Assistant Director reports to the Associate Director of Counseling, Health & Wellness and will be responsible for assisting in the execution of the strategic initiatives within a fully integrated counseling and primary medical care environment. The Assistant Director provides direct clinical services including individual therapy, as well as consultation, crisis evaluation, on-call emergency services, collaboration with consulting psychiatric provider, referrals to on-campus offices and external agencies, and outreach presentations related to Counseling, Health & Wellness services. The selected candidate also provides administrative and clinical supervision for counseling staff and performs other administrative functions, including, but not limited to, monitoring compliance with clinical record keeping standards, HIPAA, ethical standards, and NJ statutes, managing clinical schedules and caseloads of Counseling staff,  assisting in the development of departmental policies/procedures and programs, and management of the department in the Associate Director and Director’s absence. The Assistant Director participates in the graduate training program, providing clinical supervision and training seminars as needed.  This position is a full-time, 12 month, management position.

Minimum qualifications include a PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited program.  NJ Psychologist License required.  Demonstrated leadership and management skills.  Supervision experience required. The selected candidate will possess excellent clinical and communication skills; demonstrated ability to make independent professional judgments in both routine and urgent clinical situations; ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team as well as knowledge, sensitivity and ability to work with both traditional and non-traditional college students from diverse ethnic, cultural, sexual orientation, and socio-economic backgrounds. In addition, must possess basic knowledge in the use of computers and technology for electronic record keeping.

Significant experience with university students/young adults; experience providing outreach programs and presentations to audiences of various sizes and demonstrated interest and investment in the higher education environment that includes desire to participate in a vibrant and collaborative Division of Student Development preferred.
