The Dean is the chief academic, fiscal, and administrative officer of College of Science and Health, and reports directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.  The Dean provides leadership to the faculty and staff in all matters relating to curriculum and program development; accreditation, assessment and evaluation; recruitment and retention of faculty, staff and students; research, scholarship, grant-seeking and fundraising.  The Dean will actively pursue collaborations with corporations and other organizations, as well as fundraising for the College in concert with the Office of Institutional Advancement.

The College of Science and Health offers undergraduate programs in these academic departments: Biology, Chemistry, Communication Disorders and Sciences, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Kinesiology, Mathematics, Nursing, and Public Health. The Department of Physics does not award an undergraduate degree but provides courses for other majors in the College. At the graduate level, the College has master’s degree programs in Biology, Biotechnology, Communication Disorders, Exercise and Sports Studies, and Nursing, and also awards the DNP in Nursing.  The second largest College at William Paterson, the College of Science and Health has over 100 full-time faculty and serves over 2500 undergraduate students majoring in a program in the College. In addition to the academic programs, the College houses student support programs including the Science Enrichment Center, manages a state of the art Nursing Simulation Lab and Communication Disorders Clinic, and recently moved three programs into a brand new academic building, University Hall.   

The Dean will be expected to advance the College by supporting activities that promote the reputation of its programs.  The Dean will communicate the goals of the College to internal and external constituencies, provide leadership in program development and continuous improvement, and work with faculty and professional staff to secure external funding to support programmatic initiatives, faculty development and scholarships.  The Dean will provide leadership for seeking new opportunities to support and develop the College's collaborations with local businesses and related professions.

Requirements for this position include an earned doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in a field represented in the College or in a related discipline; commitment to academic excellence and the ability to develop, articulate, and accomplish a constructive vision for the College in cooperation with faculty. In addition, the selected candidate will possess at least five years of full-time teaching experience with a strong record of scholarship and service commensurate with appointment at the rank of professor at the University, successful administrative experience in higher education at the level of department chair or higher, fund-raising experience, a strong commitment to the use of  technology in teaching and learning, demonstrated  commitment to and experience with diversity issues in higher education, a leadership style that fosters team-building and inclusive working relationships with members within the College, throughout the University community, and the regional business community; and excellent communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, staff, and other administrators.
