Scott McDonough is a professor of History at the William Paterson University of New Jersey. His research interests lay in the social, institutional and religious history of late ancient west Asia, especially pre-Islamic Iran. His most recent articles include: “A War of Gifts: Iranian and Roman Competition in Late Ancient Caucasia,” “A Tale of Two Isaacs: Christians and the Crown in Fifth Century Ērānšahr,” “Queen Shirin and the Churches of the East: Christianity in Sasanian Iran,” “The ‘Warrior of the Lords’: Smbat Bagratuni at the Center and Periphery in Late Sasanian Iran,” “The Legs of the Throne: Kings, Elites and Subjects in Sasanian Iran (c. 220–651 CE).” He is currently competing a monograph on the Sasanian monarchy and its Christian subjects titled, "'We Pray for Our Glorious King': Power, Piety and Patronage in Sasanian Iran, 220-651 CE."
