Jessica Lake

Professor • Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice

Jessica Lake is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 15 years of clinical, administrative and community-based practice experience. Her clinical areas of expertise include the intersectionality of culture and mental health, depression, holistic wellness practices, trauma, toxic stressors and complex risk assessments. Jessica is an immigrant from the Dominican Republic and lived most of her formative years in the Bronx, NY. She received a dual BA in Psychology and Social Services Interdisciplinary from the University at Buffalo where she also obtained a Master of Social Work degree.

Prior to entering academia, Jessica was the Managing Director of Wellness, Social Services and Parent Engagement at Harlem Children's Zone, a large non-profit organization based in Harlem, NY, which serves over 22,000 participants annually. In this role, Jessica provided administrative, clinical and budgetary oversight for 9 social services, wellness, health, early head start, reproductive health, and parent education programs, which supported participants and families across the lifespan. Jessica is a Board Member for the United Nations Association SNY Division and a member of the Fair Lawn Arts Council.

Other Interests

Jessica is an avid traveler visiting 15 countries and over 45 cities around the world, including a Summer 2012 humanitarian mission to Kenya. Jessica also loves hiking, art, sports, music, gastronomy and spending time with her family.
