Yingcong Dai

Professor • Department of History, Liberal Studies & Philosop

A historian of late imperial China, Yingcong Dai joined the history faculty of William Paterson University in 1998. She is the author of two highly regarded books, The Sichuan Frontier and Tibet: Imperial Strategy in the Early Qing (2009) and The White Lotus War: Rebellion and Suppression in Late Imperial China (2019). The latter is on Choice’s Outstanding Academic Titles 2020 list (https://www.choice360.org/choice-pick/oats-2020-studies-of-chinese-history/). She has also published articles and book chapters on wars, war and society, and the military institutions of the Qing dynasty. Currently she works on two monographs, one on the configuration and evolution of the military elites in late imperial China, the other on horse administration and its impact on the military, politics, and society in Qing China.
