(Grades 9 to 12) Elections & You

Grades 9-12

 

 

It is the responsibility of those living in the United States to understand how Civics relates to them.  By being able to participate in a democracy, citizens can affect the nation and its well-being.   Therefore, students will learn about elections based on the following organizing questions:

  • What are civic life, politics, and government?
  • What are the foundations of the American political system?
  • How does the government established by the constitution embody the purposes, values, and principles of American democracy?
  • What is the relationship of the United States to other nations and to world affairs?
  • What are the roles of citizens in American democracy?

 

Students will also:

  • Learn how to register to vote and the ways they can vote (in person, absentee ballot, mail-in, etc.)
  • Participate in a mock-election and polling to see how people's votes vary based on their demographics.

 

Location: Online

Method: We will use Blackboard to have class.  Students will receive a unique username and password to access their course shell in an email the week before the start of class.
