MORNING CLASS: Creative Writing: Science Fiction and Fantasy

Grades 8-12

 

Do you love Harry Potter? Lord of the Rings? Maybe you prefer Star Wars or Star Trek, or a great graphic novel? If you have a story to tell, this class will help you to bring it to life. We’ll examine the differences between science fiction and fantasy, how to plot a story, creating characters that readers can identify with, and building new worlds. 

 

AFTERNOON CLASS: Sports in Literature and in Discussion- High school

Do you enjoy sports? Sports have become the most popular topic for recreation, discussion, reading and writing. Over the years, sports have become an excellent way for us to understand what is happening in our county, our state, our country and our world.

 

The purpose of this course is to read, to write and to discuss – all under the topic of sports. There are so many topics ready for us to tackle:

  • Sports issues that affect today’s society
  • Diversity issues
  • Gender issues
  • Ethical issues
  • The win at all costs attitude
  • The image of athletes, in general, and pro athletes, in particular
  • The contributions made by athletes throughout the ages
  • Spectators
  • Sports in literature
  • Sports in film
  • The sports topic being discussed today

 

All that is read, written or discussed in this course will have a sports theme.
