Using Storytelling to Teach Science 11/16/2021 (PDS Schools Only)

Audience: K-12 Science Teachers and Non-Science Teachers Who Teach Science

Description: Everyone loves a good story.  Storytelling can be used at all grade levels to engage students in ways that dry presentations of facts do not.  Studies have shown that listening to a story increases the amount of “positive” brain chemicals like dopamine and oxytocin that increase attention and engagement and promote positive social behavior.  This workshop will offer suggestions on how to use storytelling in your science classroom or when you, a non-science teacher, must teach science.  Methods of developing a good story will be presented and examples of successful stories will be provided.

Presenter: Dina Scacchetti, WPU Professor in Residence
