Pre-Requisites

The course is designed for all skill levels.  No experience with the course software is required.

The Online Course Environment

Synchronous, instructor led virtual classroom using Blackboard Collaborate provides personal engagement with the students.

Microsoft Visio is the Office application for creating a variety of business and personal use diagrams.  These include flowcharts, block diagrams, timelines, network diagrams, organization charts and floor plans.  As part of the integration of Microsoft Office, Visio can also import data from Excel to build organizational charts and import data from Microsoft project to build timelines.

Skill builder - Students will be able to:

• Draw basic shapes with the dynamic grid
• Connect shapes
• Add sophistication to your drawings
• Create and format text boxes
• Create templates, stencils, and custom graphics
• Import SVG objects
• Create the following diagram types:
  • Block diagram
  • Block diagram with Perspective
  • Standard Flowchart
  • Cross-functional (Swimlane) Flowchart
  • Organizational Chart with Pictures
  • Organizational Chart linked from Excel data
  • Process diagram
  • Cycle diagram
  • Timeline
  • Timeline linked from a Microsoft Project file
  • Office Floorplan

Our Instructor:

Frank Asciutto is an Instructional Designer, Digital Technology Instructor and Educational Technologist specializing in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite. He has 12 years of classroom teaching experience supplemented with online course development and delivery using Blackboard. Before joining William Paterson University, Frank was an accomplished corporate IT systems manager with over 20 years of experience designing and implementing a variety of financial applications. Frank earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Technology in 2012 from Boise State Universitynand is a Certified Microsoft Office Master.
