Sculpture X Workshop - Form Finding for the 21st Century 6/3-6/17/21 (Commuters)

Do you know what it is to be in a group of like-minded creatives learning things together but diverging into unique experiences; discussing and discovering big ideas as well as local expressions; seeing and sensing another person working along with you in a speculative creative context. Acting, working but importantly making problems to solve, and having natural colleagues to discuss complexities, contradictions, and courses of action.

That’s the spirit and tone that Sculpture X “Form Finding for the 21st Century” seeks to create. We offer a 12-day residency at William Paterson University, which offers carving a thing (a wooden block) by robot and further working it by hand. There will be demonstrations of 3d sampling, scanning, and prototyping, as well as an introductory course using augmented reality during the workshop. These are three essential subjects in the realization of form in the 21st century a kind of 21st Century platform for N-Dimensional sculpture. 

The workshop is held at William Paterson University Center For New Art. The center is equipped with a large scale KUKA Robot, almost a dozen 3d printers, a mac computer lab with multiple software, several PC workstations with multiple software (plus VR). It is located in the Power Art Facility, where participants will have access to wood carving tools in a sophisticated contemporary wood shop as well as a space to carve and work. This could be a way to explore new terrain in your own practice.
