Black Panther and More: Using the Smithsonian Learning Lab to Go Global and Bring the World into your Classroom                                                                                                                                               

Target Audience:  All teachers, supervisors and administrators                                           

Description: Participants will learn how to spark cross-cultural conversations, support interdisciplinary learning, and develop critical thinking and observation skills with African art forms that inspire the blockbuster Black Panther motion picture. The session will include a tutorial on how to use the Smithsonian Learning Lab to access digital media resources and tools to apply these ideas in the classroom. Participants will have time to begin to build their own teaching collections with coaching from the Smithsonian staff.                                             

Presenters: Deborah Stokes, Former Curator for Education at the Smithsonian's National Museum of African Art and Tess Porter, Education Support Specialist for the Smithsonian Center for Learning & Digital Access   

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Before attending the Smithsonian workshop on Friday, October 4, please sign up on the Smithsonian Learning Lab.  To do so, visit the Lab’s homepage at learninglab.si.edu and, on the left panel, click the blue button that says “Create a Free Account.”  Please also bring a laptop to the workshop.
