English as a Second Language Communication Skills Program:

William Paterson University is collaborating with Interstudio Viaggi (ISV) to offer an English as a Second Language Communication Skills (ESL) program.  The ISV Syllabus is based on the Quick Smart English (QSE) course book series. QSE consists of separate units so each day students focus on a different English conversation topic to improve students communication skills. All class materials will be included.

The ESL Program will focus on:

• Achieving a high level of student participation and English conversation time in class to improve student communication skills.
• Developing strategies for independent learning that can continue post-course.
• Helping students with English pronunciation.
• Linking classroom learning to day to day activities

As part of the first lesson at the beginning of the new week teachers explain and discuss with students what they are going to learn during the program. The program is designed to encourage learning by ‘doing’ to promote confident communication in English and escape the restrictions of book-bound courses to make the most of students’ abilities, imaginations, and their environment.

On the first day of the program, students will take a placement test to determent their English level.  Students can place in any level from beginner to advance based on the test results.

The program is open to English Learners in middle school and high school.
