WP Physics for Middle School(Grades 5 to 8) & NASA Moon Landing Combo 7/31-8/4/17

Morning Program: WP Physics for Middle School (Grades 5 to 8)

Learn concepts of physics such as: Newton's Laws of Motion, types of forces and energy, velocity and acceleration all while transforming ordinary plastic bottles into sky-soaring rockets! You will be collaborating with fellow classmates and apply your learnings in order to design different types of rockets based on the different challenges assigned. You will then test your rockets by launching them outside to see which group comes up with the design that yields the highest-flying rocket!

Afternoon Program: NASA Moon Landing: Preparing for 2020

Students would be working on six different design challenges, inspired by NASA's upcoming mission to set up an outpost station on the Moon in the year 2020. Challenges require students to work collaboratively to brainstorm, design and build "equipment" that would help the astronauts land safely on the moon and be able to transport materials around the satellite while building the outpost station.

These are fun challenges that allow for kids to apply the engineering design process and core science concepts, while encouraging an interest in space exploration. Each activity is distinct, offering kids variety, and helping them practice important skills, such as problem solving, teamwork, and critical thinking. The challenges are meant to inspire students to want to solve challenging problems, tap into their inner-creativity and curiosity and inspire them to pursue a career in engineering.
