Soccer Clinic 7/18-7/22/16

Participants will have an opportunity to learn and develop soccer skills in an instructional and friendly environment.  Coaching is geared towards improving individual technique/skills as well as a sense of a team within a group.  The focus will be on the fundamentals of the soccer in addition to physical fitness components such as: agility, coordination, speed, power, balance, and endurance.

Keith Woods, WP Women’s Soccer Coach

A four-time New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Coach of the Year (1997, 1998, 2009, 2010), Keith Woods is in his 20th season at the helm of the William Paterson women’s soccer program in 2016.

Woods led the Pioneers to a berth in the 2010 NCAA Tournament, the program’s third such trip under his direction, and the championship match of the NJAC Tournament. Six of his charges were selected to the 2010 all-conference team, including NJAC Defensive Player of the Year and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) second-team all-American Ali Ruddy, as well as NJAC Goalkeeper of the Year Alyssa Falduto.

An assistant coach during the Pioneers’ first days as a club team in 1993, he took over as the head coach in 1997 and helped William Paterson become one of the most respected and accomplished programs in the region. Accumulating nearly 200 victories during the last 18 seasons, William Paterson has made three NCAA Tournament appearances (1997, 1998, 2010) and won the 2009 ECAC Metro Tournament title under Woods’ direction. In addition to their athletic exploits, his student-athletes have also excelled off the field, a fact evidenced by the 12 total selections earned to the last five NJAC All-Academic Teams.

Prior to coaching, Woods was an all-NJAC performer, a four-year starter and a captain on the 1991 Trenton State team that played for the Division III national championship. During his prep days, he was a standout at Belleville High School.

Woods also was an assistant women’s basketball coach at William Paterson for nine years (1993-2002), including a stint as the acting head coach during the 2001-02 campaign. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science at Trenton State in 1992.
