Understanding Identity, Privilege, and Power in Education Contexts 2/20/20(PDS Schools Only)
Understanding Identity, Privilege, and Power in Education Contexts
Target Audience: K-12 teachers and administrators (All grades and subjects welcome!) Description: Conversations about identity - race, gender, sexuality, ability, and much more – are increasingly prevalent in our society. Yet rarely do we have sufficient time and space to reflect on how our own identities influence how we see and how we are seen in our work. The workshop will explore the question, “how can we better understand our own identities and power in order to better promote gender, racial, and economic justice through our work in education?” Participants will engage in interactive activities designed to deepen their understanding their own identities, and how others interact with their privileges and power, or lack thereof.
