The Colors I Am Inside: The Art of Performance Poetry 7/11-7/15/16

Rising 5-7 graders 

Students will explore the wonderful world of poetry through the work of famous children’s poets such as Shel Silverstein, Jack Prelutsky and Jane Yolen. They will also learn about the beloved classics, as well as be exposed to modern performance poetry. Through deep reading and performance exercises, students will gain a deep understanding of these poems. The poems will also serve as models for students in their own poetry writing. This course is designed to develop valuable public speaking and communication skills through performance games, while teaching expression and creativity (as well as grammar and mechanics) through original poetry writing.
