Statistics for High School 7/25-7/29/16

Statistics is required for numerous college majors and careers. The fundamentals of Statistics will be explored by completing fun activities and projects. For example, we will discuss planning and conducting a study including methods of data collection and sampling techniques. We will explore quantitative vs. qualitative data by looking at the center and spread of different distributions. Students will then create and compare post-it note distributions that emphasize the importance of randomization. By looking at the odds of the Powerball and Casino games, we will discuss the law of large numbers and probability rules. At the end of the week, we will have a delicious treat of M&Ms or Skittles and will analyze the color distribution of our sample.  Statistics concepts on the New SAT, ACT and HS PARCC test will be reviewed and practiced.  Students will become familiar with the TI-83/84 graphing calculator. (All supplies and calculators will be provided.)
