School Counseling and Student Engagement in Distance Learning Environments 11/19/20

Description: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many schools are providing distant learning to all students or offering it as an alternative for parent choice. Distance learning can make school counseling challenging, as traditional school counseling sessions in the office are not a viable option and students are unable to drop into the office when they need the support of a school counselor. However, with creative thinking, there are many alternative approaches that school counselors can use to continue to support students in their social and emotional growth. In this workshop, presenters will discuss various ways that school counselors can continue to provide counseling and engage students in their social and emotional development during distance learning. Topics of discussion will also include related ethical considerations, engagement with parents, connecting with teachers, and guidance lesson planning – all from the perspective of distance e-learning.
