Returning to the Classroom: Caring for Yourself After a Challenging Year 10/21/21 (Non-PDS Schools)

Audience: Educators and School Counselors

Description: Returning to the new school year, after more than a year of teaching during a pandemic, may elicit many different emotions and thoughts. Teachers have been working amidst various challenges as they support the academic and emotional needs of students, while also attending to their own experiences. This workshop is meant for educators to share space with one another and attend to their own needs. Objectives include: a) addressing educators’ concerns and emotions related to returning to the classroom for a new year, b) reflecting on, and discussing, new insights and ideas related to self-care after the past year of teaching during the pandemic, and c) identifying coping and self-care strategies as the take on a new year of teaching.

Presenters:  Dr. Meredith Drew, Ph.D., LPC, NCC, ACS  and Dr. Michelle Hinkle, Ph.D., LPC, ACS, Department of Special Education, Professional Counseling, and Disability Studies
